There are great sites like http://www.ready.gov to help you get prepared, but their recommendations can quickly become overwhelming and being "properly" prepared can get expensive.  Try browsing the internet you'll be bombarded with ideas from people who are over-preparing for the next apocalypse.

My goal here is to help you get prepared with an inexpensive and easy to prepare kit that matches the kinds of emergencies you'll realistically encounter.  Our goal here is $25 for a basic "go bag" that you can put together in an afternoon.  From that starting point, you can continue preparing for longer and bigger emergencies.
